Bhartṛyajña (Śrāddha-kalpa instruction)
Tirtha: Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Pṛthivīpati/king
Scene: After a Śrāddha meal and gifting, a man rushes into a fight; the pitṛs’ receiving hands fade, symbolizing the rite’s fruit becoming ‘vyartha’. A calm brāhmaṇa gestures to stop the conflict.
Violence and quarrel contradict the sanctity of ancestor rites and can nullify their fruit.
The instruction is embedded in the Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra-māhātmya portion of Nāgara Khaṇḍa.
After participating in Śrāddha (as eater or donor), one should not engage in fighting or quarrels.
