Bharata’s Plea and Rama’s Refusal to Return
शिरसा त्वाऽभियाचेऽहं कुरुष्व करुणां मयि।बान्धवेषु च सर्वेषु भूतेष्विव महेश्वरः।।।।
śirasā tvā ’bhiyāce ’haṃ kuruṣva karuṇāṃ mayi | bāndhaveṣu ca sarveṣu bhūteṣv iva maheśvaraḥ ||
शिरसा नतिमाकृत्य त्वामहं प्रार्थये प्रभो। मयि सर्वेषु बान्धवेषु च करुणां कुरु, यथा महेश्वरः सर्वभूतेषु दयां करोति।।
I beseech you with my head bowed low, show mercy on me and every one of our relations, like Maheswara showing compassion on all living beings.
Dharma is inseparable from compassion: righteousness is not merely rule-keeping, but merciful protection of one’s kin and all beings.
Bharata intensifies his plea with humility, invoking a divine model (Śiva’s compassion) to move Rama.
