Prayaga-mahatmya
Glory of Prayaga and the Magha Bath at Triveni
गायंति देवाः सततं दिविष्ठा माघः प्रयागे किल नो भविष्यति । स्नाता नरा यत्र न गर्भवेदनां पश्यंति तिष्ठन्ति च विष्णु सन्निधौ ॥ ३७ ॥
gāyaṃti devāḥ satataṃ diviṣṭhā māghaḥ prayāge kila no bhaviṣyati | snātā narā yatra na garbhavedanāṃ paśyaṃti tiṣṭhanti ca viṣṇu sannidhau || 37 ||
दिविष्ठा देवाः सततं गायन्ति—“हन्त! प्रयागे माघो नास्माकं भविष्यति।” यत्र स्नाता नरा गर्भवेदनां न पुनः पश्यन्ति, विष्णोः सन्निधौ च वसन्ति॥

It proclaims Prayāga’s Māgha-bath as a mokṣa-giving tirtha practice: the bather is freed from returning to womb-bound suffering (rebirth) and attains abiding nearness to Viṣṇu.
Bhakti is shown as embodied devotion—approaching Viṣṇu through tirtha-sevā and sacred observance (Māgha-snāna). The fruit is viṣṇu-sannidhāna (dwelling in Viṣṇu’s presence), a hallmark of devotional attainment.
It highlights kāla-vidhi (time-based observance): the Māgha month as an auspicious ritual window for snāna at a specific tirtha (Prayāga), aligning practice with sacred calendrical timing (Jyotiṣa-oriented vrata scheduling).
