Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the mirroring of martial power: dazzling external splendor can be matched by an opponent, yet such brilliance does not by itself confer righteousness. In the ethical landscape of the Mahābhārata war, appearances of might are narratively striking but morally ambiguous.

Sañjaya describes a warrior advancing on a sun-bright chariot, his body blazing, and notes that his approach and splendor resemble the earlier arrival of Ghaṭotkaca on his chariot—setting a tone of escalating, comparable force on the battlefield.
