The verse highlights how adharma-driven aggression collapses into shame when its power fails. The image of “broken-fanged serpents” suggests that without inner righteousness and steadiness, martial strength becomes ineffective, leading to self-reproach rather than resolve.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava side, seeing Arjuna and Kṛṣṇa depart, reacts with heavy sighs and scattered lamentation. They speak individually, expressing humiliation and frustration that the formidable pair has moved away beyond their immediate reach.
