Skanda Purana — Prabhasa Khanda, Shloka 5

ततः स्वजानुमात्रेण संप्राप्तं पृथिवीतले । ततो विष्णुपदी गंगा प्रसिद्धिमगमत्क्षितौ

Transliteration

tataḥ svajānumātreṇa saṃprāptaṃ pṛthivītale | tato viṣṇupadī gaṃgā prasiddhimagamatkṣitau

Translation

Depois, essa água desceu à terra na medida do Seu próprio joelho e alcançou a superfície do mundo. Por esse feito, o rio Gaṅgā tornou-se célebre na terra como “Viṣṇupadī” — o rio nascido do Pé de Viṣṇu.
