स्कन्दसरः (Skandasara) — तीर्थवर्णनम् / Description of the Skandasara Sacred Lake
व्यासेन चोक्तं महितेन मह्यं मया च तद्वः कथितं समासात् । नावेदविद्भ्यः कथनीयमेतत्पुराणरत्नं पुरशासनस्य
vyāsena coktaṃ mahitena mahyaṃ mayā ca tadvaḥ kathitaṃ samāsāt | nāvedavidbhyaḥ kathanīyametatpurāṇaratnaṃ puraśāsanasya
O venerável Vyāsa declarou-me isto, e eu agora vo-lo contei em resumo. Esta joia de Purāṇa, pertencente ao Senhor que governa as cidades (Śiva), não deve ser exposta aos que não conhecem o Veda.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Significance: Emphasizes adhikāra (eligibility): sacred Śaiva Purāṇa is to be taught to qualified hearers; right transmission is itself a protective ‘kṣetra’ for the teaching.
It emphasizes sacred lineage and eligibility: Shiva’s highest Purāṇic wisdom should be received through proper discipline and understanding, not treated as casual entertainment—reflecting the Shaiva Siddhanta stress on right knowledge (jñāna) alongside devotion.
By calling it the ‘jewel of the Purāṇa’ of Śiva (Puraśāsana), the verse frames Linga/Saguna-Shiva worship as a Veda-aligned path, meant to be taught with reverence to prepared seekers who can uphold its ritual and philosophical intent.
The implied practice is adhikāra-sādhana: cultivate purity, study, and disciplined devotion—then approach Shiva’s teachings and worship (including mantra-japa such as the Panchākṣarī) under proper guidance rather than indiscriminate dissemination.
