Pañcāvaraṇa-mārga Stotra to Yogeśvara Śiva
Suta Goswami (narrating the Shiva Purana to the sages at Naimisharanya, within the Vayu Samhita discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
The verse situates the major cosmic powers—devas who govern fire, wind, water, wealth, death, and direction—under the higher sovereignty of Īśāna, the Shiva-principle, indicating that all worldly governance ultimately depends on Pati (Shiva).
Īśāna, named here as the trident-bearer, is a Saguna manifestation of Shiva suitable for devotion; Linga-worship honors the same supreme Lord who is the inner ruler of Indra and the other devas, integrating cosmic order into Shiva-bhakti.
A practical takeaway is directional meditation on Īśāna (northeast) while repeating the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), visualizing Shiva as triśūla-dhṛk who harmonizes the forces represented by these devas.
