Purification of the Worship-Space and Preparation of Ritual Vessels

Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Significance: Teaches non-difference in worship between Śiva and Devī, supporting integrated Śiva-Śakti devotion; fosters completeness of upāsanā leading to grace.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: nurturing
It teaches the non-separateness of Śiva and Devī in devotion: honoring Śakti is honoring Śiva, because the divine reality is worshipped as an inseparable unity (Śiva-Śakti) even while appearing in two forms.
In Saguna worship, the Liṅga represents Śiva, yet Śiva’s power (Śakti/Devī) is never absent; therefore the same upacāras (snāna, offerings, reverence) are to be extended to Devī as integral to Śiva’s worship.
Perform the same pūjā sequence—snāna/abhisheka, offerings, and reverential services—for both Śiva and Devī, cultivating the contemplative attitude that the two are one reality expressed as Lord and Power.
