It teaches that outer purity (ācamana and consecration of one’s clothing) supports inner purity, culminating in Śiva-smaraṇa—remembrance of Pati (Śiva), which is central for loosening pāśa (bondage) and steadying the mind in worship.
Before approaching Saguna Śiva in Liṅga-pūjā, the devotee prepares the body and surroundings through prescribed purifications; the final act—remembering Śiva—turns the ritual into true upāsanā rather than mere external action.
Perform ācamana twice, sprinkle and purify the garment with water empowered by eleven mantras (ekādaśa-mantra prokṣaṇa), perform ācamana twice again, and then meditate on/mentally invoke Śiva with focused remembrance.
