It highlights that true awakening (prabodha) arises when compassionate guidance transmits adhyātma-vidyā—inner knowledge that loosens bondage and leads the seeker toward Shiva’s grace and clarity of Self.
In Shaiva practice, outer worship of Saguna Shiva (such as Linga-puja) is meant to culminate in inner awakening; this verse emphasizes that the priest’s instruction turns ritual into realization by directing the mind inward.
A practical takeaway is to pair worship with adhyātma-vicāra and mantra-japa—especially the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—received with humility from a competent teacher and practiced calmly and consistently.
