maṃkaṇa uvāca | kiṃ na paśyasi he brahmanraktaṃ pittaṃ ca me sthitam | saṃjātaṃ siddhimāpanno raktaṃ pittaṃ yato mama
Maṃkaṇa
Tirtha: Arbuda-kṣetra (contextual)
Type: kshetra
Listener: nṛpasattama (king)
Scene: The ascetic Maṃkaṇa, flushed and intense, points to his own body as ‘proof’—blood and bile—claiming siddhi; the brāhmaṇa-Śiva watches with compassionate, discerning gaze.
Mistaking bodily signs or minor attainments for true liberation can lead to pride; Purāṇic narratives often correct such misunderstandings.
The broader Arbuda sacred landscape is in view; this verse is part of the Arbuda Khaṇḍa’s sanctifying narrative cycle.
No direct ritual action is prescribed; the verse discusses perceived siddhi as a result of tapas.
