It highlights that true spiritual power is not merely physical might but also dharma and indriya-jaya (sense-mastery); even in a battle narrative, the Purana marks inner discipline as a sign of spiritual maturity under Pati’s (Shiva’s) overarching order.
Though the verse names a Viṣṇu-bhakta, the Shiva Purana’s wider frame teaches that all devotions operate within Shiva’s cosmic governance; sense-control and righteousness are prerequisites for fruitful Saguna worship (including Linga-upasana) and for receiving Shiva’s grace.
The implied practice is indriya-nigraha supported by japa and vrata—e.g., steady mantra-japa (such as the Panchakshara, Om Namaḥ Śivāya, in Shaiva practice) with disciplined conduct—since conquering the senses is explicitly praised.
