paropatāpavimukhāḥ śivabhaktiparāyaṇaḥ | matkathāśravaṇāsaktā vahanti satataṃ hi mām || 58 ||
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It defines the mark of a true devotee: compassion (not harming others), steadfast devotion (Śiva-bhakti), and continuous śravaṇa (hearing sacred teachings), through which the Lord becomes ever-present in the heart.
Bhakti is shown as practical and inward: ethical restraint from hurting beings, single-minded devotion, and regular hearing of divine kathā—together producing constant remembrance and inner presence of the Divine.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Kalpa) is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is sādhana through śravaṇa (disciplined listening) and ahiṃsā-based conduct.
