Mārkaṇḍeya (deduced)
Tirtha: Mārkaṇḍeśa
Type: kshetra
Listener: Pāṇḍu-nandana (addressed in adjacent verse)
Scene: Mārkaṇḍeya consecrates a sacred spot by the river; a luminous stairway motif rises subtly behind the Śiva-liṅga, symbolizing ‘svarga-sopāna’; the rishi experiences a calm jñāna-light at heart by Śaṅkara’s grace.
Pilgrimage is not only merit (puṇya) but also awakening (jñāna), granted through Śiva’s grace.
A Śiva-centered tīrtha in the Revā/Narmadā region that the speaker says he previously established.
The verse alludes to establishing/instating a sacred locus (sthāpana), implying consecration and worship at the site.
