Adhyaya 77 — Sanjna’s Withdrawal from Surya: The Birth of Yama and Yamuna, and the Emergence of Chhaya
saumya-mūrtiḥ śubhākāro mama bhartā bhaved iti / abhisandhiṃ ca tapaso bubudhe 'syā divākaraḥ
Power must be tempered by gentleness; the ideal of authority is śubha (beneficent) rather than merely intense.
Manvantara/vaṃśa narrative: it motivates the subsequent ‘tejas-reduction’ that enables social and cosmic functioning.
The ‘gentle form’ indicates transmutation of raw tejas into sattva—illumination that nurtures rather than burns.
