FAQs

This verse imparts vamśa-vidyā (genealogical knowledge): a precise succession of kings used in Purāṇic historiography to anchor narratives, rites, and royal legitimacy.

By preserving structured dynastic data (names and descent), the Agni Purana functions as a reference compendium alongside its ritual, political, and śāstra sections—cataloguing lineages much like an archive of early Indian royal memory.

Reciting and preserving righteous lineages is presented in Purāṇic tradition as smṛti-dharma: it supports dharma by honoring ancestral continuity and reinforcing the ideal of kingship aligned with sacred order.
