Skanda Purana — Prabhasa Khanda, Shloka 104

यदा जुहाव चेंद्राय ततस्ततो व्यजायत । प्रमादस्तत्र संजज्ञे प्रायश्चित्तं च कर्मसु

yadā juhāva ceṃdrāya tatastato vyajāyata | pramādastatra saṃjajñe prāyaścittaṃ ca karmasu

Apabila dia menuangkan persembahan ke dalam api bagi Indra, daripada perbuatan itu timbul suatu kelalaian; maka dalam amalan ritual, lahirlah prāyaścitta, iaitu upacara penebusan dan penyucian.
