Skanda Purana — Prabhasa Khanda, Shloka 26

तद्वयं तानि सर्वाणि गृहीत्वा च व्यवस्थिताः । लोकस्य रक्षणार्थाय संज्ञेयं तेन लोकपाः

tadvayaṃ tāni sarvāṇi gṛhītvā ca vyavasthitāḥ | lokasya rakṣaṇārthāya saṃjñeyaṃ tena lokapāḥ

Maka, setelah kami mengambil semua senjata itu dan berdiri teguh sedia berkhidmat, kami menumpukan diri untuk melindungi alam; sebab itulah kami dikenali sebagai Lokapāla, para penjaga dunia dan segala wilayahnya.
