Skanda Purana — Nagara Khanda, Shloka 8
यस्य स्वतेजसा सूर्यः प्रोक्तस्त्रैलोक्यदीपकः । तस्मिन्वसति येनेन्दुरमावस्या ततः स्मृता
yasya svatejasā sūryaḥ proktastrailokyadīpakaḥ | tasminvasati yenenduramāvasyā tataḥ smṛtā
Dengan sinar dirinya sendiri, Matahari disebut “pelita tiga alam”; apabila Bulan bersemayam dalam sinar/kuasa itu, hari tersebut dikenang sebagai Amāvasyā (malam tanpa bulan).
