Skanda Purana — Nagara Khanda, Shloka 4
प्रष्टव्या च ततो माता तस्याश्चापि च या भवेत् । जननी चापि प्रष्टव्या तस्याश्चापि च या भवेत्
praṣṭavyā ca tato mātā tasyāścāpi ca yā bhavet | jananī cāpi praṣṭavyā tasyāścāpi ca yā bhavet
Kemudian hendaklah ditanya ibunya, dan juga perempuan yang menjadi ibu kepada ibunya. Demikian pula, hendaklah disoal tentang leluhur sebelah ibu, dan juga perempuan yang menjadi ibu kepada ibunya—agar garis keturunan sebelah ibu diperiksa dengan teliti bagi upacara.
