सूत उवाच । मैत्रेय्या सह संसक्तं याज्ञवल्क्यं विलोक्य सा । कात्यायनी सुदुःखार्ता संजाता चेर्ष्यया ततः
sūta uvāca | maitreyyā saha saṃsaktaṃ yājñavalkyaṃ vilokya sā | kātyāyanī suduḥkhārtā saṃjātā cerṣyayā tataḥ
Sūta berkata: Melihat Yājñavalkya begitu rapat terikat dengan Maitreyī, Kātyāyanī dilanda dukacita yang amat dalam; lalu timbullah rasa cemburu (īrṣyā) dalam dirinya.
