Skanda Purana — Nagara Khanda, Shloka 28

तेषामपि च चत्वारि गोत्राण्युर गजाद्भयात् । गतानि तत्र यत्र स्युस्तानि पूर्वोद्भवानि च । चतुःषष्टिः स्थिता तत्र पुरे शेषा द्विजन्मनाम्

teṣāmapi ca catvāri gotrāṇyura gajādbhayāt | gatāni tatra yatra syustāni pūrvodbhavāni ca | catuḥṣaṣṭiḥ sthitā tatra pure śeṣā dvijanmanām

Daripada mereka itu, empat gotra juga berangkat kerana takut akan gajah-ular (nāga-gaja); mereka pergi ke mana sahaja mereka dapat—itulah gotra yang berasal lebih awal. Enam puluh empat yang selebihnya daripada kaum dvija (dua kali lahir) tetap tinggal di kota itu.
