आकर्ण्य तत्करुणवत्परिदेवितानि तानि द्रुमा व्रततयः कुसुमाश्रुपातैः । प्रायो रुदंति पततां विरुतार्तरावैरालोल्यमौलिमसकृत्पवनच्छलेन

ākarṇya tatkaruṇavatparidevitāni tāni drumā vratatayaḥ kusumāśrupātaiḥ | prāyo rudaṃti patatāṃ virutārtarāvairālolyamaulimasakṛtpavanacchalena

Mendengar ratapan yang penuh belas kasihan itu, pepohon—bagaikan pertapa yang teguh berbrata—seakan menangis dengan hujan bunga sebagai air mata. Kebanyakannya merintih dengan pekik pilu burung yang jatuh, dan pucuk-pucuknya bergoyang berkali-kali seolah-olah dengan alasan hembusan angin.
