महोदरवधः
The Slaying of Mahodara
जघ्नतुस्तौतदान्योन्यंवेदतुश्चपुनःपुनः ।तलैश्चान्योन्यमहत्यपेततुश्चमहीतले ।।6.98.26।।
jaghnatus tau tadā anyonyaṁ nedatuś ca punaḥ punaḥ |
talaiś ca anyonyam āhatya petatuś ca mahī-tale ||6.98.26||
Lalu kedua-duanya saling menghentam berulang-ulang sambil mengaum; dan dengan tamparan telapak yang keras mereka saling menjatuhkan, lalu berguling-guling di atas bumi.
Thereafter, both of them fully endowed with strength, with their weapons broken, who resembled glowing fires, fought with their fists.
The verse underscores endurance under trial; dharma is sustained not by ease but by continuing one’s duty even when the struggle becomes exhausting and close.
The duel becomes a rough clinch—striking, slapping, roaring—until both fall and roll on the battlefield.
Sahiṣṇutā (forbearance) and tenacity—the combatants persist through pain and fatigue.
