O King! the heroes in bark robes and with matted hair crossed the Ganga and proceeded towards Prayaga.
It illustrates dharma as lived discipline: Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa adopt ascetic signs (bark garments, matted hair) consistent with truthful acceptance of exile and vow-bound conduct.
Sumantra reports to Daśaratha the outward marks of exile taken up by Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa and their travel route after crossing the Gaṅgā toward Prayāga.
Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa’s renunciant steadiness and obedience to a hard duty; Sumantra’s accuracy and loyalty in reporting.
