The Description of the Caturdaśī Vrata Observed throughout the Twelve Months
Sūta (narrating Nārada’s instruction within the Purāṇic dialogue)
Vrata: uttama-vrata (name not specified in this verse)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It teaches that disciplined, rule-based observance of an excellent vrata yields both worldly fruition (bhoga as earned merit) and culminates in liberation-oriented attainment—Hari’s supreme abode.
By presenting Hari (Viṣṇu) as the final goal (hareḥ padam), it frames vrata as a bhakti-supporting discipline: consistent worship and regulated practice mature into God-attainment.
The emphasis on vidhivat (“according to prescribed rite”) points to ritual correctness governed by Kalpa (procedural rules) and supported by Śikṣā/Vyākaraṇa for accurate recitation and formulation of the vow.
