Dhaumya’s Counsel on Incognito Conduct in a Royal Household

Educational Q&A

Life in a royal household is morally and practically perilous; one must follow disciplined, prudent conduct to avoid the ‘faults’ of court life—temptations, intrigue, rash speech, and actions that compromise dharma.

Dhaumya begins instructing the Kuru princes (the Pāṇḍavas, in context of their incognito stay) on how to behave while residing in a king’s palace so they can pass safely through the dangers and defects associated with courtly life.
