Narrator (Purāṇic narration describing the devotee before speaking to Śiva)
Primary Rasa: bhakti (treated under shanta)
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It does so indirectly: the devotee’s blissful tears and surrender at Śiva’s feet indicate experiential recognition of the Lord as the inner reality that overwhelms the mind—an embodied sign of contact with the indwelling Self through devotion.
The verse highlights bhakti as a yogic discipline: stuti (praise), pranāma (bowing), and prāñjali (folded-hands reverence). These are preparatory practices that steady attention, soften ego, and ready the seeker for instruction—often the gateway to Pāśupata-oriented inner discipline in the Kurma Purana.
By presenting Śiva as the supreme recipient of devotion within the Kurma Purana’s broader synthesis, it supports the Purāṇic non-sectarian frame where devotion to Śiva is upheld without denying the Vishnu-centered narration—pointing to functional unity of the divine in Shaiva-Vaishnava traditions.
