Yamarāja Instructs the Yamadūtas: Supreme Authority, Mahājanas, and the Glory of the Holy Name
एतावतालमघनिर्हरणाय पुंसां सङ्कीर्तनं भगवतो गुणकर्मनाम्नाम् । विक्रुश्य पुत्रमघवान् यदजामिलोऽपि नारायणेति म्रियमाण इयाय मुक्तिम् ॥ २४ ॥
etāvatālam agha-nirharaṇāya puṁsāṁ saṅkīrtanaṁ bhagavato guṇa-karma-nāmnām vikruśya putram aghavān yad ajāmilo ’pi nārāyaṇeti mriyamāṇa iyāya muktim
Maka untuk menghapus dosa manusia, saṅkīrtana nama, sifat dan perbuatan Bhagavān sudah memadai. Ajāmila pun ketika nazak menyebut “Nārāyaṇa” lalu mencapai pembebasan.
In the assembly of Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī’s father, Haridāsa Ṭhākura confirmed that simply by chanting the holy name of the Lord one is liberated, even if he does not chant completely inoffensively. Smārta-brāhmaṇas and Māyāvādīs do not believe that one can achieve liberation in this way, but the truth of Haridāsa Ṭhākura’s statement is supported by many quotations from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
This verse states that saṅkīrtana—glorifying and chanting the Lord’s names that describe His qualities and deeds—is sufficient to destroy sinful reactions.
While dying, Ajāmila called out “Nārāyaṇa” (addressing his son), and the holy name itself invoked divine protection; the Bhagavatam uses this to show the extraordinary purifying power of the Lord’s name.
Regularly chant and hear the Lord’s holy names (personally and with others), making it a daily spiritual practice for purification, steadiness of mind, and devotion.
