FAQs

It prescribes a procedural sequence in worship/homa: salutation, seeking forgiveness (kṣamā-yācñā), approaching the kuṇḍa, and employing the ‘pavitra-catuṣṭaya’—a defined set of four ritual purity implements (pavitras) used while performing the rite.

By codifying minute ritual mechanics—expiation, altar-proximity protocol, and standardized purity devices (pavitras)—it exemplifies the Agni Purana’s handbook style that compiles liturgy, theology, and practical ceremonial procedure in one place.

The act of bowing and formally requesting forgiveness purifies intent and removes ritual faults; approaching the fire-altar and honoring Śiva ‘in the fire’ frames the rite as both outer sacrifice and inner purification, aimed at faultless merit (puṇya) and sanctity.
