Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Kṣetra-devatā arcana: Prahvī, Satyā, Durgā, Īśāna-Anugraha-Āsana-Mūrtikā, Giraṅgaṇa, Kṣetra, Vāsudeva-ādi","lookup_keywords":["kṣetra-devatā","durgā","īśāna","āsana-mūrti","vāsudeva"],"quick_summary":"A worship sequence for site/precinct guardians and principal deity: invoke protective and truth-bearing powers, Durgā, an Īśāna-anugraha seat-form, then the hill-precinct and kṣetra deities, and finally Vāsudeva and allied forms."}

Concept: Dharma of place (kṣetra-dharma): sacred space is maintained by honoring its guardians and the deity’s supporting forms (āsana, precinct powers) along with the supreme form (Vāsudeva).

Application: Before major worship, festivals, or installation rites, perform kṣetra-devatā and dvāra/precinct propitiation to remove obstacles and stabilize auspiciousness.

Primary Rasa: bhakti

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: Tirtha

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A temple-site worship: priest offers flowers and lamps first to guardian powers and Durgā near the precinct, then to a sanctified throne-seat (āsana) associated with Īśāna’s grace, and finally to Vāsudeva within the shrine.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural: temple enclosure on a hill; Durgā at a side shrine; a decorated āsana/throne with Īśāna-anugraha symbolism; Vāsudeva in the sanctum; priests performing sequential offerings; bold lines and traditional palette.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore: Vāsudeva central with gold halo; Durgā in a side panel; ornate jeweled āsana depicted prominently; kṣetra guardians as small attendant figures; heavy gold work and rich reds.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore: step-by-step ritual scene—labels for Prahvī, Satyā, Durgā, Īśāna-āsana, kṣetra and giraṅgaṇa; clean composition emphasizing procedure; soft colors and fine detailing.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature: hillside temple complex with courtyards; priest and assistants carry trays of offerings to different stations (gateway, precinct, throne-seat, sanctum); intricate architecture and landscape detailing."}

FAQs

It gives a practical pūjā-sequence/list of deities to be honored—Śākta (Durgā), Śaiva (Īśāna-related grace-form), kṣetra/guardian powers of the site, and Vaiṣṇava (Vāsudeva and related forms)—indicating a comprehensive ritual roster for a sacred precinct.

It exemplifies the Agni Purāṇa’s compendious method: it catalogs multiple theological streams (Śaiva–Śākta–Vaiṣṇava) and local sacred-geometry concepts (kṣetra, precinct guardians) within a single operational instruction for worship.

Worshipping both the major deities and the kṣetra/guardian powers is presented as a way to harmonize the sacred site, remove obstacles, and secure divine grace (anugraha), thereby supporting purity, protection, and ritual efficacy.
