upamanyuruvāca | śvetaḥ sutāro madanaḥ suhotraḥ kaṅka eva ca | laugākṣiśca mahāmāyo jaigīṣavyastathaiva ca

Sage Upamanyu
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse establishes the authoritative lineage of ṛṣis within Upamanyu’s narration, framing the teaching as preserved through realized seers—an important Shaiva method for validating doctrine and practice.
While this line mainly lists names, it functions as narrative scaffolding for the surrounding Shaiva instruction; in the Vāyavīya discourse such enumerations typically introduce or situate teachings about devotion to Śiva—often centered on Saguna worship (Linga, mantra, and observances) leading toward realization of the Supreme Pati.
No specific rite is prescribed in this verse itself; the practical takeaway is to receive Shaiva practices (such as japa of the Panchākṣarī ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’, bhasma/tripuṇḍra, and Rudrākṣa discipline) through an authentic teacher-lineage as the text proceeds.
