The Description of Kāśī (Kāśī-māhātmya): Avimukta, Kapālamocana, and Śiva’s Purification
जलधारा शिवं प्राप्ता हरस्य हेतुरग्रतः । ता धारास्त्रीणि वर्षाणि संसेव्य विधिवद्धरः ॥ ३२ ॥
jaladhārā śivaṃ prāptā harasya heturagrataḥ | tā dhārāstrīṇi varṣāṇi saṃsevya vidhivaddharaḥ || 32 ||
Narada
Vrata: none
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"shanta","secondary_rasa":"bhakti","emotional_journey":"The narrative resolves into calm fulfillment: a water-stream reaches Shiva as the effective means of his aim; sustained prescribed observance over three years culminates in satisfaction."}
It emphasizes that sacred waters at a tīrtha become an effective spiritual instrument (hetu) when approached with disciplined, rule-based practice over time, leading to divine satisfaction and auspicious outcomes.
Bhakti here is expressed as sustained reverent service (saṃsevā) to the sacred—approaching the holy streams with faith and proper conduct for years, showing steadiness rather than momentary enthusiasm.
The verse highlights vidhivat (procedural correctness), pointing to Kalpa (ritual procedure) as the practical discipline—performing tīrtha-related acts like bathing, worship, and observances according to prescribed rules.
