Śuka’s Yoga-ascent, the Echo of ‘Bhoḥ’, and the Vaikuṇṭha Vision
श्रीभगवानुवाच । व्यासपुत्र महाभाग प्रीतोऽस्मि तव सुव्रत । विद्यामाप्नुहि भक्तिं च ज्ञानी त्वं मम रूपधृक् ॥ ६७ ॥
śrībhagavānuvāca | vyāsaputra mahābhāga prīto'smi tava suvrata | vidyāmāpnuhi bhaktiṃ ca jñānī tvaṃ mama rūpadhṛk || 67 ||
Śrī Bhagavān (the Lord, i.e., Viṣṇu/Nārāyaṇa)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It presents divine approval (prīto’smi) as the fruit of suvrata (steadfast sacred discipline) and teaches that liberation-oriented life culminates in both vidyā (realized wisdom) and bhakti (devotion), by which the devotee comes to embody the Lord’s nature.
Bhakti is shown not as emotion alone but as a grace-filled attainment alongside vidyā; the Lord’s pleasure confirms that disciplined observance and inner purity mature into devotion that makes the devotee ‘mama rūpadhṛk’—aligned with the Lord’s qualities.
No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Śikṣā) is directly taught; the practical takeaway is the vrata-based discipline (suvrata) that supports sādhana—regular observance, restraint, and devotion-focused conduct.
