FAQs

It functions as a table-of-contents marker: it points the seeker toward the Uttara section where the sanctifying power (māhātmya) of pilgrimage sites is taught in a systematic, detailed way to support dharma and purification.

By directing attention to tīrtha-māhātmya, it frames pilgrimage as a devotional practice—approaching sacred places with reverence, hearing their glories, and cultivating remembrance of the divine through holy narratives.

No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa) is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is procedural—tīrtha topics are organized “pṛthak” (individually), implying structured guidance for pilgrimage observances and their results.
