It teaches an Ayurvedic external formulation (lepa) composed of specific herbs and spices to reduce śotha (inflammatory swelling).
Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves practical medical recipes—here, a detailed materia-medica list and a topical treatment method—showing its wide-ranging, encyclopedic scope.
While primarily medical, such healing instructions are traditionally framed as dharmic welfare-knowledge (lokahita), supporting bodily well-being so one can perform duties, worship, and disciplined practice without impediment.
