īśvara uvāca | nāmnā tava dvijaśreṣṭha tīrthametadbhaviṣyati | khyātiṃ tapaḥprabhāvena tīrthaṃ yāsyati sattama
Īśvara (Śiva/Mahādeva)
Tirtha: Paṅgu-tīrtha
Type: ghat
Listener: Paṅgu (addressed as dvijaśreṣṭha/sattama)
Scene: Śiva proclaims: ‘This tīrtha will be known by your name’; a visionary sense of future pilgrims and enduring fame radiates from the spot.
Tapas (austerity) can sanctify a place and make it renowned; divine affirmation seals that sanctity.
Paṃgu Tīrtha, whose name and fame are explicitly established by Śiva.
No explicit rite is stated; the verse explains the tirtha’s fame as arising from tapas.
