कार्तवीर्यो जयं लब्ध्वा संख्ये हत्वा द्विजोत्तमम् । जगाम स्वां पुरीं हृष्टः कृतान्तवशमोहितः
kārtavīryo jayaṃ labdhvā saṃkhye hatvā dvijottamam | jagāma svāṃ purīṃ hṛṣṭaḥ kṛtāntavaśamohitaḥ
കാർത്തവീര്യൻ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ജയം നേടി, ശ്രേഷ്ഠ ബ്രാഹ്മണനെ വധിച്ച്, ഹർഷത്തോടെ തന്റെ നഗരിയിലേക്കു പോയി—എന്നാൽ കൃതാന്തന്റെ (മരണ-വിധിയുടെ) വശത്താൽ മോഹിതനായിരുന്നു.
