The Greatness of Bhasma, Rudrākṣa, and the Name of Śiva

शिवनामामृतं पेयं पापदावानलार्दितैः । पापदावाग्नितप्तानां शांतिस्तेन विना न हि

śivanāmāmṛtaṃ peyaṃ pāpadāvānalārditaiḥ | pāpadāvāgnitaptānāṃ śāṃtistena vinā na hi

പാപമെന്ന ദാവാനലത്തിൽ പീഡിതർ ശിവനാമാമൃതം പാനം ചെയ്യണം; ആ പാപദാവാഗ്നിയിൽ ദഗ്ധരായവർക്ക് അതില്ലാതെ ശാന്തി ഇല്ല.

Sthala Purana: In the Viśveśvarasaṃhitā, Kāśī/Avimukta is praised as the supreme kṣetra where Viśveśvara grants śānti and mokṣa; the ‘nectar of Śiva’s Name’ functions as the immediate upāya for beings scorched by pāśa (bondage).

Significance: Nāma-smaraṇa and darśana of Viśveśvara are taught as direct means to inner peace (śānti) and loosening of pāśa; especially efficacious in Kāśī (Avimukta).
