FAQs

It highlights dharmic restraint: even realized sages honor right timing and protocol. In Shaiva understanding, humility and readiness (adhikāra) are prerequisites for receiving higher knowledge about Pati (Śiva), paśu, and pāśa.

Approaching Saguna Shiva (through Liṅga worship, mantra, and ritual) requires inner discipline and respectful conduct. The sages’ waiting reflects the attitude of reverent approach—essential for fruitful darśana, pūjā, and receiving upadeśa.

The implied practice is patient japa and contemplative waiting—maintaining śauca and self-control at sacred thresholds. A simple takeaway is to sit quietly, repeat the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), and cultivate humility before seeking instruction or entering worship.
