Role: teaching
It highlights how fixation on external attributes (like complexion) can trigger anger and sharp speech, which in Shaiva ethics becomes an obstacle to inner purity, devotion, and steadiness of mind needed for Shiva-oriented liberation.
Linga-worship trains the devotee to look beyond outward appearance and egoic comparison, turning attention to Shiva as the inner Reality; this verse contrasts that ideal by showing how worldly identification provokes conflict.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) to cool anger and purify speech, paired with mindful restraint (vāg-yama) before speaking.
