दक्षस्य रुद्रनिन्दा-निमित्तकथनम् / The Cause of Dakṣa’s Censure of Rudra
तदुपश्रुत्य गमनं देव्यास्त्रिपुरुमर्दनः । दक्षाय च ऋषिभ्यश्च चुकोप च शशाप तान्
tadupaśrutya gamanaṃ devyāstripurumardanaḥ | dakṣāya ca ṛṣibhyaśca cukopa ca śaśāpa tān

Shiva Form: Tripurāntaka
Sthala Purana: Śiva as Tripuramardana, hearing Satī’s departure, turns wrathful and curses Dakṣa and complicit ṛṣis—setting the karmic and cosmic conditions for the destruction of the yajña and restoration of dharma.
Significance: Warns against aparādha to Śiva and Devī; affirms Śiva as dharma-rakṣaka whose ‘ugra’ response purifies corrupted ritual order.
Shakti Form: Satī

The verse shows Śiva as Pati (the Lord) correcting ego, ritual-pride, and disrespect toward Devī; the “curse” functions as karmic rebalancing that exposes bondage (pāśa) and turns beings back toward dharma and surrender.
Tripuramardana is Saguna Śiva—personally responsive to devotion and offense. Linga-worship emphasizes honoring Śiva-Śakti and approaching with humility; disrespect toward Devī or Śiva’s devotees leads to spiritual obstruction, as illustrated here.
Maintain reverence to Śiva-Śakti and avoid aparādha; practice japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with vibhūti (tripuṇḍra) and a devotional attitude, offering inner repentance and restraint when anger arises.
