Parvati
Tattva Level: pasha
Sthala Purana: The line belongs to the Dakṣa–Satī conflict: disrespect (avajñā) toward Śiva’s śakti (Satī) and toward Śiva himself becomes the seed of the yajña-dhvamsa narrative.
Significance: Teaches that contempt toward Śiva-bhaktas/Śiva-śakti is a grave pāśa (bondage) producing downfall; honoring Śiva’s śakti is integral to Śiva-dharma.
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: teaching
The verse condemns avajñā (contempt) and asatkāra (dishonour) in sacred relationships, teaching that inner reverence is the foundation of dharma; disrespect becomes an obstacle (pāśa) that binds the soul away from Śiva’s grace.
In Śaiva practice, external offerings to the Liṅga are incomplete without bhāva (right attitude). This verse highlights that contempt toward devotees or the Divine’s own kin undermines saguna worship, because true pūjā is measured by humility and honour.
Cultivate śivabhakti with aparādha-bhaya (carefulness about offenses): begin pūjā with a short repentance/prāyaścitta prayer, mentally offer respect to all beings as Śiva’s presence, and maintain a disciplined, non-contemptuous attitude while chanting the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya).
