"Today by the killing the enemy I will take my revenge and also of Khara, Kumbhakarna, Prahastha and Indrajith."
The Ramayana repeatedly warns against vengeance as a governing motive. Dharma seeks justice and restoration of order, while revenge perpetuates violence and blinds one to truth (satya).
Rāvaṇa frames the coming fight as retaliation for fallen allies and relatives, intensifying his resolve to kill Rāma’s side.
The verse negatively spotlights fixation and wrath; the counter-virtue implied is self-restraint (dama) and discernment (viveka), central to dharmic action.
