Indrajit’s Illusory Sita Episode and Hanuman’s Rebuke
इमांहत्वाततोरामंलक्ष्मणंत्वां च वानर ।।।।सुग्रीवं च वधिष्यामितंचानार्यंविभीषणम् ।
imāṃ hatvā tato rāmaṃ lakṣmaṇaṃ tvāṃ ca vānara | sugrīvaṃ ca vadhiṣyāmi taṃ cānāryaṃ vibhīṣaṇam ||
“ഇവളെ വധിച്ച ശേഷം, ഹേ വാനരാ, രാമനെയും ലക്ഷ്മണനെയും നിന്നെയും—സുഗ്രീവനെയും—ആ അനാര്യനായ വിഭീഷണനെയും ഞാൻ കൊല്ലും.”
"O Hanuman! You said women should not be killed. But whoever causes trouble to the enemy, action should be taken, said Indrajith."
The verse highlights adharma through intimidation and vengeful intent; dharma is implied by contrast—true righteousness does not rely on terror or deceit to claim victory.
Indrajit announces a sequence of killings to demoralize the vānaras, setting the stage for a deceptive act meant to break their resolve.
A negative trait is foregrounded: arrogance and cruelty, especially in branding Vibhīṣaṇa (a dharma-aligned defector) as “anārya.”
