Rāvaṇa’s Assault on Nīla and Lakṣmaṇa; Hanumān Bears Rāma
तमाहसौमित्रिरविस्मयानोगर्जन्तमुद्वृत्तसिताग्रदंष्ट्रम् ।राजन्नगर्जन्तिमहाप्रभावाविकत्थसेपापकृतांवरिष्ठ ।।6.59.97।।
tam āha saumitrir avismayāno garjantam udvṛttasitāgradaṃṣṭram |
rājan na garjanti mahāprabhāvā vikatthase pāpakṛtāṃ variṣṭha ||6.59.97||
മേലോട്ടുയർത്തിയ വെളുത്ത അഗ്രദംഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾ കാട്ടി ഗർജ്ജിക്കുന്ന അവനോടു, വിസ്മയമില്ലാതെ സൗമിത്രി പറഞ്ഞു: “രാജാവേ, മഹാപ്രഭാവികൾ ഇങ്ങനെ ഗർജ്ജിക്കുകയില്ല; നീയോ വെറും പൊങ്ങച്ചം പറയുന്നു—പാപകൃത്യങ്ങളിൽ അഗ്രഗണ്യൻ!”
Saumithri, not surprised at the screaming of Ravana with his projected teeth, said, "You are great in sinful action. People of great valour do not display such bluster. Do not shout like that."
Dharma here is disciplined valor: true strength is expressed through action guided by righteousness, not through noisy intimidation or self-praise. Satya is upheld by naming wrongdoing plainly—calling evil ‘evil’ without fear.
Lakṣmaṇa answers Rāvaṇa’s terrifying roar and threats, rebuking him for boastful bluster and framing it as a mark of sinfulness rather than greatness.
Lakṣmaṇa’s fearlessness and moral clarity—he remains unshaken and speaks directly against adharma.
