Public Opinion and Royal Duty
विभीषणस्य च तथासफलोऽद्यपरिश्रमः ।विगुणंभ्रातरंत्यक्त्वायोमांस्वयमुपस्थितः ।।6.118.9।।
vibhīṣaṇasya ca tathā saphalo ’dya pariśramaḥ |
viguṇaṁ bhrātaraṁ tyaktvā yo māṁ svayam upasthitaḥ ||6.118.9||
അതുപോലെ വിഭീഷണന്റെയും ഇന്നത്തെ പരിശ്രമം ഫലവത്തായി—ഗുണഹീനനായ സഹോദരനെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് സ്വയം എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നവൻ.
"Hanuman's leaping across the ocean and devastating action of Lanka has yielded results now."
Dharma may require rejecting even familial ties when they uphold adharma; choosing righteousness (and truthful allegiance to it) is presented as the higher duty.
Rāma credits Vibhīṣaṇa’s defection from Rāvaṇa and his alliance with the righteous side as a meaningful, successful effort.
Moral courage: the willingness to stand for dharma despite family pressure and personal risk.
