द्वितीयं कारणं यच्च ब्रवीषि विनयान्विते।रामादन्यस्य नार्हामि संस्पर्शमिति जानकि ।।5.38.4।।एतत्ते सदृशं देवि पत्न्यास्तस्य महात्मनः।का ह्यन्या त्वामृते देवि ब्रूयाद्वचनमीदृशम्।।5.38.5।।

dvitīyaṃ kāraṇaṃ yac ca bravīṣi vinayānvitē |

rāmād anyasya nārhāmi saṃsparśam iti jānaki || 5.38.4 ||

etat te sadṛśaṃ devi patnyās tasya mahātmanaḥ |

kā hy anyā tvām ṛte devi brūyād vacanam īdṛśam || 5.38.5 ||

ഇനിയും, വിനയസമ്പന്നയായ നീ പറയുന്ന രണ്ടാമത്തെ കാരണം—‘രാമനെ ഒഴികെ മറ്റാരുടെയും സ്പർശം ഞാൻ സ്വീകരിക്കേണ്ടതല്ല,’ എന്നേ ജാനകീ—അത് ആ മഹാത്മാവിന്റെ പത്നിയായ നിനക്കു യോജിച്ചതുതന്നെ. ദേവീ, നിന്നെ ഒഴികെ മറ്റാരാണ് ഇത്തരമൊരു വാക്ക് പറയുക?
