Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that dharma is sustained through the faithful performance of one’s own prescribed duties (svadharma). When the twice-born uphold their roles with integrity, dharma becomes ‘endowed with its qualities’—i.e., socially effective, stable, and visible in communal life.

Vaiśampāyana describes the condition of the world in the Pandavas’ thirteenth year (the year of incognito living). He implies that wherever Yudhiṣṭhira resides, righteousness and proper conduct flourish, with the dvijas actively observing their duties.
